- Fox Beach -

In the 1950s, the Fox Beach neighborhood was built as a beachside bungalow community in Staten Island. As time went on, the original marshland and current rising sea levels impacted the neighborhood—2012 floods brought on by Hurricane Sandy. Rather than rebuilding the water-damaged houses, the majority of their neighborhood decided to sell their homes in a buyout. Only 12 of the 140 residents remained in Fox Beach in 2016. As deserted houses are knocked down, native plants regrow, creatures resurface and birds next again, proving nature’s resiliency and power to be irrepressible.
